intensely interesting people

In 2016, UDT conference collaborators began asking the big question: How can we (re)create buildings, communities, learning places, programs and products to better meet needs of 21st century people? The answer to us was, of course, with Universal Design. But...

As peers, colleagues and friends began to answer our question, we noticed several were focused on one or more of these elements of the rural economy--and most answers, in one way, shape or form, had to do with design. We realized we had an amazing opportunity to bring an unprecedented mix of industry, research, business and placemaking professionals together to share research and best practices, learn more about what works, and encourage individual and community innovation in rural places at all levels.

That's how the mashup of these three conferences came to be, and that's why you'll see a mix of presenters from universities, Extension programs, private business, public agency and not-for-profits.

In addition to UDT speakers, we're pleased to feature speakers from the acclaimed What Works in Rural Business Innovation and Economic Development conference, sponsored by the Northeast Regional Center for Rural Development, and speakers from the Create West Virginia Conference,  sponsored by our local host, the Creative Communities Network. A full list of UDT partners is HERE.

The list of speakers will continue to grow. Check back regularly for updates, and be sure to register.
